ABCC - COMPETITION GUIDANCE
SETTING THE ASPECT RATIO AND PIXEL SIZE FOR CLUB COMPETITIONS
INTRODUCTION
A photographic Image is a very individual thing, requiring different approaches to arrive at the photographers preferred final image, some of these may be:
· In camera format and setup choices
· In the field composition and editing
· Final composition and post capture editing with software
· Cropping of the Image to get the correct look, this may be Landscape, Portrait or Square formatting
· Resizing the Image for correct Pixel sizes depending on final use
1. Personal Pixel Image requirements for own use
2. ABCC Pixel Image requirements for digital projection in club “Project” display nights
3. ABCC Pixel Image requirements for Club “Digital Competitions”
4. Pixel Image requirements to meet other Inter-club competition rules
5. To meet Scottish Photographic Federation Pixel etc requirements for entering SPF competitions.
The Information below refers to bullets 2 and 3 above.
ABCC will accept digital images for Club Digital Image Projection Nights and Club Competitions, meeting the below requirements:
· Landscape and Portrait Images, Image Aspect Ratios of 4:3 and 16:9 Maximum Image Pixels of 3200 by 2400, pixels/inch
· SQUARE Images- Note: Image must be changed to Ratio 1:1 in the Ratio tool settings before Resizing to 2400 by 2400 pixels/inch.
· JPEG Images no larger than 10MB
· Image Resolution – 300 pixels per inch (Printing Quality)
Aspect ratio refers to the proportional relationship between the width and height of an image or display, expressed as two numbers separated by a colon (W-width:H-height). It defines the shape of the image on display, regardless of its actual size in pixels.
Note: Some camera settings allow choice between 4:3 and 16:9 (as well as giving other aspect ratio options).
● 4:3 Aspect Ratio: Landscape or Portrait Images
This ratio is frequently found in phone cameras and some digital cameras. It provides a slightly taller, but narrower image than 16:9.
● 16:9 Aspect Ratio: or Portrait Images
This is a widescreen format and is wider, but lesser in height than 4:3.
For 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios., Resize images to a MAX of 3200 × 2400 pixels/inch.
● 1:1 Aspect Ratio: Square Images
The square image will need resized to a Max of 2000 x 2400 pixels/inch.
If the Pixel size ratio is out-with the 3200 x 2400, reduce one parameter to make the other come within the 3200 x 2400 limits.
