INCLUDING - IMAGE ASPECT RATIO, PIXELS AND FORMATTING IMAGES

Digital Image and Mounted Print Requirements for Club Competitions/ Presentations

1 - Digital Image & Print Age

 

All Images (Digital & Mounted) will be accepted up to 24 months before the current season start date.

(e.g. Season start 1st September 2024, Therefore Images accepted from 1st September 2022)

2 - Image Aspect Ratio, Pixel Number & Resolution

 

Landscape – Aspect Ratio 4:3, or 16:9, to a MAX of 3200 x 2400 pixels.

Portrait – Aspect Ratio 4:3, or 16:9, to a MAX of 3200 x 2400 pixels.

Square - Aspect Ratio 1:1 (Square), to a MAX of 2400 x 2400 pixels

Image Resolution - 300 Pixels per Inch (Printing Quality)

3 - File type File Structure

 

 

 

JPG/JPEG - For all club Competitions and Image Projections.

**Filename Structure for Digital and Print Images --- (e.g.: A_77_Mull-sunset.jpg)

-   Priority level A, B, C, D, Underscore

-   Club membership number, Underscore (e.g.  77)

-   Image title and file extension

4 - Mount Size Print Size Presentability and Cleanliness Image Title & Membership Number:

 

All prints must be submitted in mounts that are 14 x 11” inches or metric equivalent.

Any print size may be submitted, if presented in the 14 x 11” mount.

Note: The consistent 14 x 11” mount size, ensures when sending prints to the Judge they:

-   Mounted Images are not bigger than the transportation bags or boxes, and

-   Not too small as to damage other members prints by excessive movement in bag/box.

-   Ensure mount front and rear are free of marks, dirt, roughness, sticky patches as these may damage other prints.

-   Sandwich the print between the mount and a sheet of paper, card or mount board.

-   Clearly print the image filename (**as described above) on the reverse of the mount.

-   Do not use a sticky label that can peel off and affect other prints.

-   Do not print your name on the mount, you will be identified by your membership number.

5 - Image Submission

 

Digital Images should be handed over to the Competition Secretary on a memory stick (with Membership #) at the Club Meeting hand-in night, 3 weeks before the competition night. 

Mounted Prints should be handed to the Competition Secretary at the Club Meeting hand-in night, 3 weeks before the competition night or, as detailed in the club programme.

Members are advised to submit the maximum images/prints per competition as this may impact their total competition score for the Photographer of the Year PotY Trophy.

6 - Scored Competitions

 

 

Competitions counting towards the ABCC Photographer of the Year (PotY) Trophy are:

Joan Cook Digital Image Competition (externally judged)

John Cook Mounted Print Competition (externally judged)

Creative Space Competition (externally judged)

7 - Creative Space

 

Member Images should meet the competition subject title, Image Pixel sizes 3200 x 2400 pi/inch to give maximum projection size, then, no other rules apply and any aspect ratio is allowed.

8 - ABCC PotY -Photographer of the Year Trophy

 

This Trophy is awarded to the member achieving the highest cumulative score for all their Images from the three externally Judged Competitions.

-   Digital Image,

-   Mounted Print

-   Creative Space.

9 - Knockout Competition

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Knockout Competition has its own Trophy, but is just for a bit of fun.

Member Images should meet the Image Pixel sizes as mentioned previously in point 2 above to give maximum projection size, then, no other rules apply and any aspect ratio is allowed.

 Other guidance for Images to be submitted may change from season to season, and will be specified prior to the competition being held.

 The winning Image is decided by the members by a show of hands when Images go up against each other, One goes through to the next round and the other to the recycle bin, this process is repeated till there is a winner.
