ABCC Competition Trophy Winners
From season 2024/2025 the club has provided trophies for the best photographer in each judged competition, these are listed below.
Trophy winners will keep them for 12 months, then hand them back for the next year’s competition winners. Their names will be added to the ABCC competition Roll of Honour.
The Knockout Competition – A competition judged by attending ABCC members on the night by way of a show of hands for 2 images projected on the screen, one to progress to the next round and the other to the recycle bin. It is just a bit of fun, but we are still looking for the high standards expected in other competitions. Note: This Competition does not count towards Photographer of the Year (PotY) trophy as it is internally Judged.
Externally judged competitions counting towards: Photographer of the Year Trophy
1. The Joan Cook Digital Image Competition. (ABCC Image Guidance to be followed)
2. The John Cook Mounted Print Competition. (ABCC Image Guidance to be followed)
3. The Creative Space Competition (Must adhere to Image theme, other than that "No Rules apply)
The Judge of the above three competitions is usually a photographer from another camera club who either is, or, is aspiring to be a Scottish Photographic Federation (SPF) judge through gaining experience by judging other local club competitions.
The Judge is asked to follow the ABCC Judge Guidelines and grades all the images giving each image points from 14 to 20 in half point increments and names his/her preferred image 1st, 2nd, and 3rd based on his/her scoring.
Scoring of a Competition Trophy – Scoring of a Competition Trophy is carried out by adding the score of each image entered into that competition by that member in that competition. E.g. Jim Bloggs entered 4 images A,B,C,D, into the Creative Space competition. A=14, B=16, C=15, D=16 giving a Total for that competition = 61 pts. The winner of the Competition Trophy would be the member with the highest score. e.g. For Jim Bloggs:
Photographer of the Year Trophy (PotY) – Each member score from the externally judged competitions is added together to give the members Cumulative score over the three counting competitions. See below.

John Cook Open Mounted Print Competition - 50 pts
Creative Space (Black & White) Competition - 61 pts
Total score towards winning the PotY Trophy - 161 pts
